See your process more clearly.ProVision combines the power of multivariate statistical modeling with the detailed information contained in high quality colour images to help you truly "see" what is going on inside your process and as product moves down the line. The extracted information enables you to make adjustments that save time and money. A ProVision system is like having an expert set of eyes on your industrial control system. Information is available in real time, second-by-second, and not just when an operator is available to look at the line. Because the information is automatically quantified, it can be fed directly into the process control system to make improvements. Because it's timely and objective, employees can respond more effectively if action needs to be taken. |

What is machine vision?Machine vision analyzes images to extract data for controlling a process or activity. If you have a camera taking pictures of a key aspect of your process or documenting your product as it goes down the line, you have machine vision installed at your plant. For most of the two decades that machine vision has been around, it has used greyscale images to extract simplistic information such as the number, size and location of objects, but the advent of digital photography and colour images has expanded the possibilities for image-derived data. ProSensus takes the millions of pixels of information contained in crisp, high resolution colour images and, using powerful multivariate models, extracts information that traditional machine vision—even when using colour images—could never access. When that information is fed into your system, you'll discover a level of process control unparalleled in the process engineering world. |
Case Study: Chip off the ol' blockCustomers expect that the first chip in a bag should taste the same as the last…and today's bag of chips should taste the same as last week's purchase. But consistent seasoning isn't as easy as it sounds. How, in fact, can you measure and adjust the seasoning level on a solid product like chips, on the production line, without interrupting the process? For a giant in the snack food industry, ProSensus designed multivariate imaging algorithms that estimates—in real time—the seasoning content of a conveyor belt full of chips passing under a camera. Operators view a map showing the variation in seasoning from chip to chip and are alerted by the system when chips are predicted to go out of spec. An automated control mechanism continuously adjusts the seasoning level based on the ProVision system's estimates. The bottom line result is that seasoning content variation has been reduced by 50 per cent, which means less time and money wasted on off-spec production and an improved, more consistent customer experience. |
